Cleaning wiring loom connectors

What would people recommend for cleaning connectors in a wiring loom? I'm getting intermittent electrical faults on my Gas Gas and stripping the bike down, the bike has been through the mud a lot! Everything is caked in dusty dried mud and disconnecting connectors results in a small puff of mud! They are also looking a little furred up.

I'm gonna start by give the whole lot a good clean, but am curious as to what people use?

Thanks
Luke

WD40 for connectors is a good place to start, but there are purpose-formulated electrical contact cleaners, so get some of this. When you put the connectors back, smear a bit of vaseline around them, which should help from stuff getting back in :D

H'mm maybe some specific contact cleaner. I've not used it on my bike, but on other electrical stuff. Seems to work ok.

Other than that maybe some ACF50 should clean it and protect it afterward

If its for the multi pin connectors I would get something small to dig and loosen the dirt and then use switch/contact cleaner. Spray it into both terminals and connect and disconnect several times.

I just use electrical contact cleaner myself.

Emery paper to shine up the metal bits and WD40 to get the damp out.Silicone to stop water getting in again.

Don't seem to be able to get it in Oz - would be surprised if you could in Un Zud.

Doubt it! I find it really hard to find half the stuff I use to be able to get in the UK :(

Bought some contact cleaner in the end (wasn't aware there was such a thing!) which seems to be doing the job

Thanks for all the replies :)
