Removing the petrol tank
Hi I need to remove the petrol tank from my sv650, I have no idea how to do this, is it a simple job?

Re: Removing the petrol tank
Yep simple one.
You need to remove the two panels under the left and right hand side of the riders seat. Undo the seat bolts which are hidden behind these panels then undo the two bolts at the very front of the tank (inbetween the yoke and the tank) Hinge up the tank with the rod that's under the pillion seat and if that aint there use a piece of wood. **The riders seat needs to come off so the tank can hinge up. |
Re: Removing the petrol tank
What year SV you taking about?

Re: Removing the petrol tank
Fair point.
My instructions relate to the Curvy version. |
Re: Removing the petrol tank
2001, i have removed all the bolts but how do i switch the petrol off as sv650s dont seem to have the usual on off switch for the petrol, or i can't seem to see it...?

Re: Removing the petrol tank
The fuel tap is vaccum controled and flows when the engine is on. You should be able to remove it all without a huge amount of fuel going anywhere. There will be a little bit but just catch this with some well placed rags.

Re: Removing the petrol tank
Easier to do if tank is less than half full, otherwise when you jack it up on prop, fuel will leak out of filler.
Also it's lighter to lift. As Viney says, but also ther'es the gauge sender to disconnect. |
Re: Removing the petrol tank
To remove the tank completely the fuel hose, vaccuum tap hose (on rear carb), breather hose and the fuel level sensor connector need to be undone, then unbolt the two bolts at the back of the fuel tank where the fuse tray hooks on, then lift off the tank. :)
