Inforad fitting advice.
 

ok so i recently bought an Inforad and now need to fit it. :shock:

I know its failry simple to do but since i dont have a Haynes manual for my pointy i dont have any wiring diagrams to follow.

I'd imagine hooking it up to just the battery only isn't the best idea, or is it ok to do that?

And someone mentioned to me the other day that perhaps i shuld consider fitting the main part in the fairing as opposed to under the seat.

And advice gratefully accepted peeps. And the reason i've put this in here is that most of you know i need simple easy to read for a 5yr old instructions. If i posted this elsewhere they'd baffle me with technical words like "current" and"amps" and i'd have to give up. ;)

Bring it to Frith on Friday and we can get it fitted.

My suggestion would be indicator and arial just behind the screen and take the power feed from the side-lights - ss might as well put the whole unit in the fairing.

i'm worried about putting it in the fairing since i ride all year round and the bike is parked outside all the time. So dont want unit getting wet/frozen/road salted.

Could bring it friday to soho but i'd rather get it done before then.

Lucas your idea of connecting to no. plate light sounds sensible actually since that only comes on with the ignition key in and turned right, so now chance of mucking it up and draining the battery there. And easy wirse to find too i guess.

Must be a flaw in that plan then as it sounds too easy, lol.

If its up in the nose it will be fine :)

Main reason for saying to put it there is to keep all the wiring in one location - the side lights will work as well as the plate light to run it from.

This way the whole package will be in one place :)

Hmm You make a valid point there David. Will have a look about under there ina bit to see how easy it is to access it all.

fairings are all new to me still, lol.

Check and make sure the led cable reaches the front as it is very short, that will dictate where to fit the main unit, under front or pillion seat, mine is between the two :D

They're the pretty :flower: bits on the outside of the frame. HTH :D


My inforad needs fitting too...........just another one of those jobs that I haven't got round to yet.

Again, bring to Frith and we can sort it - it really IS that simple a job.

Only tricky bit is selecting what to splice to and then fixing the damned thing in place.

Worst case scenario is it is "dry fitted", ie we work out what goes where, then you go off and do it yourself if for example self-adhesive Velcro on the unit and the inside of a fairing would be the way to go (and we dont have those items :)

Please leave such things to a grown up who can be relied upon not to fry your bike.
Where you splice the Inforad supply, (or any electrical accessory), is very important - you need to make sure this is connected such that a fault won't render your bike dangerous or unusable. Just because it's connected and working does not mean it's suitable.

There is an excellent place on a pointy SV for an Inforad to go - easily accessible for updating the unit, and keeps the cable runs short.

Who said the LED cable is short? What are you doing with it - mounting it in a trailer :confused:
