Stopping in cycle boxes before red lights.

Morning all, we seem to be having a crackdown on this at the moment. As you're all probably aware once the light's changed red, rolling into the cycle box is technically running a red.

This was explained again to me this morning by a cheery bloke in a nice city of London police uniform just by Moorgate tube. Didn't seem in a rush to give out tickets, just so you're aware.

Take it easy,

Jambo

Well as long as they are also going cyclist that cross the line in front of that one as well....

TBH I only ever enter these boxes if to no would leave me in a dangerous position - ie, filterinf up the centre line and some idiot in a car is already in the box, leaving me no room to stop before the box, but be able to get infront of the car before the lights.

Thanks for the heads up tho :)

Never knew that, I knew we werent meant to use them but I count on the car drivers to not know this fact. (especially seen as many stop over the line anyway).

Interesting. I had read somewhere that these cycle boxes had no standing in law whatsoever, although this was a few years ago and they might have addressed this issue by now.

Agreed, maybe we should all get some cheap plastic pedals off old kids bikes and tape them on ;) That'll baffle your average london bobby :)

I considered pointing this out, but he was being nice, and had given no indication I was going to get points or a fine, so seeing as my tax disc is at home somewhere, I thought I'd not draw attention to this...

When asked if I knew that it was 3 points and a minimum fine of £60 if prosecuted for entering a bike bay on a red light I did say:
"No, I wasn't aware of that" and then followed up with "like that bus, and taxi there?"

But I thought it was best not to push it.

Ah but Jambo you seem top forget that buses and taxis have their own rules that means they own the roads

We're also not supposed to come to a stop in front of the lead vehicle stopped at lights.

The whole "motorbikes are classed as bicycles" thing doesn't work...

Tried it already in a bus/bicycle buslane......
