It's all going well... and then you're off! (Haggis down)
As i mentioned in the Applecross thread, I had a bit of an incident on Wed. night.
Was out for a local run with three mates after work. 22C on Wednesday, a great day for it. We had gone about 40 miles, stopped for fuel, had a chat and although there was some confusion when we were heading home, we decided to go another 30miles or so. Two of the guys stopped along the way for a moment, thinking me and my mate had done the same, but we'd carried on. Heading into a series of sweeping bends, my mate leading on the Gixer, I'm following. I'm about 4 bike lengths behind so I can see past. He overtakes a tour bus on a right/left and narrowly misses an oncoming artic lorry. Jammy git! Glad I didn't follow. At the next short straight I pass the bus, no traffic, no drama. A couple of longer straights and he's just ahead of me again. We are only a qtr mile from where we said we would stop, approaching a 40 zone. I see him brake and veer left into a layby, and think... "ok, we can stop here and wait on the other two". I brake, with the intention of pulling in ahead of him, then when I'm almost alongside, he does a u-turn across my path into the road again! I'm aiming square at his torso, his bike broadsides to mine, with a couple of bike lengths to go, he is almost stationary. I haul the R1 left but clip his rear wheel with the front of the bike and seat unit with my headlight and right fist. His bike flops to his left and he rolls onto his back. I'm out cold for a couple of mins...... He says he was signalling right, but all I saw was his brakelight, then him slowing and going left. Just one of those things I guess. Apparently, then next bit involved the all tourists off the bus, some trying to remove my lid, leathers and back protector, and my mate telling them to F.Off back onto the bus!!!! :D Our other two mates turn up, someone calls the cops and ambulance. I come around, get stretchered up and taken the 30miles to hospital. They took xrays of my right elbow/forearm area, swollen but no breaks they think. Right hip bashed and bruised, shoulder too and surface graze to the arm. Checked my back, pelvis, limbs, neck, etc. All clear tho. My mate got his back checked, but given the all clear. What's really annoying is that the hospital (and the other one near our house) both refused to admit me overnight despite the head injury which would require hourly obs. incase I relapsed. This meant a 40mile journey home by car with Amanda, and if anything went wrong, 40miles back or possibly air-ambulance call-out to get me to Inverness. Talk about feeling like a burden to the state! Anyhow, I'm not too bad now. My cough that I've had for a week keeps making me wince but getting better sleep every night now. Could have been sooo much worse for both of us if the timing was different. :shaking: Got my mate to take a few pics of the recovered bike. Most are blurry.... no that's not my double vision! :p [img=http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/8199/dsc00152.th.jpg] |

Not good mate, glad you're reasonably ok.
Sorry to hear this, David. |
Re: It's all going well... and then you're off! (Haggis down)
Jeez!! Hope you guys are both ok!
Sounds frightening... GWS |
Re: It's all going well... and then you're off! (Haggis down)
That sounds awful mate, not the way you should be treated!! Seriously hope you aren't too bashed up and are on the mend!!(hope your mate is ok too)
Take care of yourself, sure Amanda will help Cumfy |
Re: It's all going well... and then you're off! (Haggis down)
Ohh nasty to hear :(
Hope you GWS, which is the main point. It's a shame going from your lovely avatar to that picture:( but that's what insurance is for (hope there's no fall outs over that) but I don't think a U turn from the far left with a bike coming from behind you is good idea. A flashing indicator tells you one thing - that the bulb works! And I would be saying the same if you had U turned in front of your mate |

But the hospital thing is just wrong. They sent you home in case you took not well? Letters to MP, MSP. MEP, NHS, Council to follow then. Shocking. Get well soon mate. |
Re: It's all going well... and then you're off! (Haggis down)
Thats not the one you bought earlier this year is it...?
Really sorry you lost it mate. Glad to hear your on the mend and still with us though bikes are easily replaced. |
Re: It's all going well... and then you're off! (Haggis down)
Sorry to read this :-( And the way that hospital acted was appalling!
Hope you both feel better soon! |
Re: It's all going well... and then you're off! (Haggis down)
GWS Haggis. Not good to hear another story of an orger having an off.
The way you were treated at the hospital is disgusting and as has been said, letters of complaint need doing. Head injuries need to be supervised. Hope you are your mate stay friends. |

Ach that's bad news.
Hope you heal quickly.:( |
