NHS symptom checker can't make up it's mind...

As a couple of folks on here know, I'm feeling what I'd describe as "a little under the weather."

Basically, I reckon I've got "man flu" - but I'm a stubborn sod & I've already downed a couple of high energy drinks & some flu capsules. That should see me alright for a while.

Whilst bored, I figured I'd check out the NHS symptom checker.

Now, I'm fairly IT literate, but that is a seriously confusing website!! I reckon I'm borderline for some of the symptoms mentionned, so the results I've got back (obviously dependant on answers) are:

- Sort it yourself.
- Go see your GP.
- Call 999 now. Sorry, but I'm stubborn, there's no way in hell that's happening. If needs be, I'll drive there first. I'm not dead, so I don't need an ambulance.

Then I went through the specific swine flu symptom checker. That's a little more straight forward, and answering honestly, it gives the "call 999" result. See above.

So I'll call the office in a bit with a "this is how I'm feeling, if you'd rather I stay at home, fine, otherwise I'll be in at the usual time."

NB, not an attention whoring thread, just ranting that the symptom checker couldn't be more difficult to use!

Swine flu is HN1, so you get the same symptoms as man flu. It's also no more deadly than normal flu (a pretty paltry versions of the virus... or is that bird flu ;) )

All things I know already. :)

The people that have been infected by swine flu & have subsequently died, have died from pneumonia not influenza. ;)

Yeah, mortality rate of <1% AFAIK.
30 people die each day of normal flu

We had a bout of 'flu' in our office a couple of months ago. It was brought back from California by a colleague. Now, I've had 'flu' before, but this time I thought I was dying. Had 3 days off work (5 days if you count the weekend) and still had a bad chest for 3 weeks afterwards. I could quite understand someone in a frail condition dying from something like that.
My advice to you is this, take time off work and give your body every opportunity to fight the virus. Make sure you eat well and drink lots of fluids.
Hope you feel better soon.

I`d never advise anyone to consult an online diagnosis tool... even the NHS one!
