D Day anniversary events

I fancy going over to Normandy for the D Day events on June 6th. Anyone else going ?

No doubt it will be tough to get a room in Caen - has anyone been to the beaches and got any recommendations about best way to get there , where to stay etc ..... ?

I was at Beulieu Motor museum at the w/e and there was a tanks and troops event there - lots of men dressed up as GIs, Tommys and FFI...one of them reckoned if Obama turns up the beach - Omaha ?- will be closed to the rest of us , so lets hope he stays away.

ps - announcer told the crowd that the fly by by a Hurricane cost £260 a second , "so enjoy every second !" Pilot did a grand job but he kept disappearing below the tree line , because he had to keep away from the crowd for health and safety reasons ...daft

PPs - the museum probably make £260 a second on the food and drink they sell - £2.20 for lemonade ? families must be bankrupt by a hot day out at a place like this...

Yes went last year. Mogs organsied the trip and we stayed in Arromanches

Was really good, loads to do and see.

If you can find the time I would really recommend the trip to Pegaus Bridge, that was my favourite bit of our trip. Read more here

The American war cementary overlooking Omaha beach is a very sobering place.
