Unusual goings on (for me)...
Well, with all this talk of new jobs on the .Org, I thought I'd share. :)
I got to the office today, and before I'd even sat down at the desk to login, my manager asks if I've got a minute. I've head that many many times before. It's always been the precursor to "weren't having this talk because we don't feel that your position is justified, blah blah blah." :smt090 So me, my manager, and an "impartial representative" have a walk down the corridor. It's been a while since I've had this conversation, but I generally look forward to it, because it's not long after this that something goes haywire & people realise just why they keep a geek like me around whilst everything works ok. "We've got a problem in the office," my manager starts. So stupidly, I'm already grinning from ear to ear. Expecting the "if you don't do something to improve your stats we're going to have to let you go" as usual. Only that doesn't come. Instead, my manager continues with " and we'd like you to be the saviour." That wiped the smile off my face. :| The long & the short of it, is that they've noticed the fact I tend to train a lot of the new starters, then take responsibility for them, and any screw ups they make, so they approached the people I'd been training to ask their thoughts (all unknown to me - the crafty beggars!). So I'm being seconded to another team, starting Monday. I'm being given 3 weeks to turn their support around (and considering the estate, it's going to be tough)! That's classed as my trial. If that shows decent results, my job title is changed permenantly, and I'll then be "Problem Management Specialist - International." (But yes, it does make the acronym of PMS International!). Needless to say, if you're constantly PMS, you get paid more. :smt047 Just a shame that my hours won't be improved any, but when they're creating a whole new department, you can't really be that picky. |

Grats :)
Got any "work from home in London" spaces in your new team? |
Re: Unusual goings on (for me)...

Although for no amount of money would I want to be around PMS any more than I have to ;) |

Case 1: Everything works out and I end up with PMS (), I get paid more than I am now, and I'm kept busier moving from team to team improving things as I go. Case 2: I improve the team I'm tasked with over the next 3 weeks, and then I'm back where I started, sat here, doing nothing much but getting paid. No loss on my side, a change is as good as a rest, and it'll broaden my knowledge a little. Case 3: Irrespective of any potential (or realised) stats increases effected on the other team (management speak already!), they fill my place on my current team, and I'm left working on the team I'm being sent to help. That team has less paperwork & bulls*it from management than my current team, yet gets the same pay. Case 4: Similar to case 3, but including a demotion for me. Simple, I start looking for alternative employment. That's something I've been thinking about doing anyway, it's just that I haven't got around to it as it takes effort that I can spend elsewhere. :) |
