How to win on ebay...?

I'm bidding for something on ebay using ebays own automatic bidding system, where you put in the maximum and it bids for you.

It says I am in the lead and the highest bidder, but the displayed price hasn't moved since my first bid. I do really want the item so I put my maximum bid in as being a bit over the odds. It hasn't moved since the first time I bid 4 or 5 days ago though. Does this mean I'm the person with the highest maximum bid? Why hasn't it automatically gone up to just above the next highest bidders maximum? i.e if I put a maximum of 30 quid, and somebody else put a maximum of 20 quid, why isn't it sitting at 21 quid with me as the highest bidder?

Any other tips to ensure I win the auction?

Thanks

That's because no one has bid against you.......

if you post the url I'd be happy to bump up the price you pay if you want

Tips, if possible don't bother bidding til the last minute.

But it says there are 2 bidders? Don't get me wrong, I'm not unhappy that the price hasn't gone up. Just a bit concerned that the automatic bidding system isn't working properly? Also the price is under £2 for something that I think is worth 30 or 40 quid, so if it's still like that a few minutes before the item closes, will the seller not end the auction early? I'd rather bid realistic money and get it, than the seller think he's not getting enough and end the auction. Or can he see what I have set as my maximum bid?

I will do, do you have to put in a fixed amount and thats what it bids, or will it bid the minimum necessary to win, up to a limit that you have set?

the systems bid the minimum to win (it's impossible to bid more than that as per the way ebay is)

Nah the 2nd bidder might have set a previous bid but you're currently beating him. say you've set a maximum of £30 an dhis maximum is currently £20. Well your bid is now at £21 as that's the minimum necesary to bid if he ups his max to £25 then your will be upped to £26 and if he ups to £35 then you'll be losing and his bid will be at £31.

maketh sense?

Yep, thanks, that makes perfect sense and is what I expected. But is that process hidden or should I see the price of the item going up?
