Can I go first .... Try the Secret Garden up near Leyburn ... Its funny as watching everyone trying to squeeze out of the smallest door way I have ever seen !! Very cool up there actually, You have to book places you cant just turn up but its worth it .. and the ride up there is not bad either !!

The Hyena Cave and Saxon Church - Kirkdale
Directions - Leave Helmsley heading for Pickering on the A170. After Beadlam(?) and Nawton there is a steep right hand bend - but you go striaght on to Kirkdale on a very minor road. Take the left which is signposted to St Gregory's Minster. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Gregory's_Minster A Saxon Church rebuilt by Harold's (mind my eye!) brother Tostig. Returning from the church, turn left and continue along the lane. On just the other side of the ford you can park up on the left for the cave. http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...g/ABCD0009.jpg The cave is about 50 yds in on the right in an old quarry. Take a torch and scrambling boots. http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...g/ABCD0008.jpg This link tells you about it.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirkdale_Cave They say it is the most Northerly point at which hippo bones have been found. Not been to a club in Newcastle then .... |
