Paying for goods...or not paying
What are my rights???? Looking for advice. Sorry that a story is brewing.
The wife ordered a dinning room table and chairs plus a side board from a local company in Bracknell back in Sept 07, with a guaranteed delivery of December 07 (only paid the deposit at the time). Nothing arrived for Xmas and the local store then closed and moved all orders to a store in Reading. After A LOT of store visits and phone calls nothing was done except for some far fetched stories about shipping problems and lost containers. Eventually in March 08 we escalated it to the company MD via email and amazingly in April we got the table and chairs. I refused to pay until they could deliver the side board. A lot more store visits where made but nothing got done. So we left it with only the deposit paid and no side board. Dec 08 we found a separate store that stocked the same furniture and got us our side board in two days. Now in June 09 we get a call from the first supplier asking us to contact them about outstanding payments. So what rights do I have to refuse payment considering its taken nearly two years and still no original side board? I'd be happy to hand everything back and get my money back. Any ideas, suggestions welcome. Cheers Neil |

Re: Paying for goods...or not paying
They haven't completed the order so as long as everything was ordered together, you can reject the whole lot and get your money back.

Re: Paying for goods...or not paying
Do some research and mention some sort of legislation to them, example if the table collapsed every time you put something on it (slight exargeration but to make a point) then you would mention the sale of goods act, normally makes them s**t themslves or as mention get citizens advice involved

These guys will tell you the relevant piece of law to quote to the comapny too if you ask for it. I've recently used these people for an issue my mum is having with Currys and her washing machine, so i know they're helpful :) |

Brilliant advice. Thanks to all.
I knew there would be some sort of consumer rights group who could help but I didn't know where to look. Much appreciated. |
Re: Paying for goods...or not paying
just pay them.... no wonder this country is going down the tubes... ask for a healthy discount because of all the hassle, i'm sure they will oblige. besides the mark up on these type of goods is huuuuuuge...
