New battery, r/r - ignition failure.
My bike's battery got cooked for the second time last weekend. Never blew any fuses, only the headlight and the bike sputtered to a stop.
I replaced the battery and installed a '08 cbr600rr upgrade regulator. Now it will crank, but it will not fire. I get volts at the coils, r/r, main fuse, battery, o/w wire going into the CDI. Does anyone know what it could be? I don't know how to test the CDI coming out and I'm afraid it may have gotten fried when I was over-charging... But I thought it may also be the signal generator and I don't know how to test that either. Any help would be very much appreciated. It's too nice out to be stuck in the garage! |
Re: New battery, r/r. Old stuff got cooked. Now can't fire!!!
Have you checked that there is a spark at the spark plug? Is it cranking strong enough?

Try new coils, wouldn't they be cheaper? :p

Got a working CDI on eBay. Plugged it in and it fired right up. So, all things considered... Replace your r/r if your curvy has 15k+ so you don't have to go through what I went through. This is a common problem and needs to be monitored. The faulty r/r fried my CDI, tach, headlight bulb, tail bulbs, and 2 batteries when I went on a long ride. Check your voltage and make sure it's safe like <15v or so. My r/r upgrade was a '08 CBR600rr model that had a slotted bolt hole and mounted right up with no issues. Wiring is easy, and remember to put a 30a inline fuse if you go direct to the battery.
Hope that this helps someone else in the future. |
