Oil change time.
 

Ok... with the GMII coming up i need to do an oil change...

This will be the first time i have done this but looking at the manual... its doesnt seem that big of a job.

Anything that you can advise me to watch out for??
And what oil/filter do you recomend?

I have searched but can seem to narrow the options enough to get the results.

Doing a filter change too?

Check the seal from the old filter is not still stuck to the engine casing.

Suzuki filter, new sump washer, 10w40 oil,

Smear some oil around seal of new filter thats it really, just dont spill oil every where :D

Filter removal tool can be useful if the previous owner was a bit over enthusiastic tightening it up.

Any 10w40 bike specific oil - don't use car oil. If it doesn't say it's for bikes on the bottle, don't use it. I've used 5w40 bike oil in the past, marginal difference if any, but you're better sticking with 10w40 really.

I wouldn't use full mineral myself, but it won't really do any harm. I personally prefer semi-synth, I don't see the point in paying for fully synth.

You'll be needing just shy of 4l to do a full change on a pointy - HG had a deal on that was £12 for 4l re-branded Motol IIRC.

Oil filter, well, so long as it'll fit the SV, you're laughing. OEM is somewhere around £10. I got a HighFlo filter for £8 last time I think.

Does your air filter need looking at too? Compressed air to blow any bits out & you should be good to go. Otherwise it's around £10-£15 for a new air filter IIRC.

Failing that, large screw driver, hammer, and not a lot of patience will remove the most stubborn of oil filters. :)

don't panic about nailing the oil limit bang on the full line of the window straight away. This is something i always do and end up over filling it :rolleyes:. leave it a tad short until you've let the engine idle for a couple of minutes, then check the level on level ground holding the bike upright (get someone to sit on it makes it a bit easier), then top it up nearer to the full line. prob the easiest bike going for oil changes! :cool:

However, if you're watching the pennies, Hien Gerrick's own semi synth oil is ~£13 for 4L, and is apparently re-branded Motul Semi Synthetic. That's a very good price.

Was delivered next day.

Hi-flo filter seal is already greased so need need to run oil on it when fitting. Just chap the old filter with a hammer and screw driver...(going in the bin anyway) and just hand tight with the new filter.
