Dual Compound...do they work?
 

Need new tyres. Actually I need a new front tyre but going to get a pair as I reckon the rear only has less than 1k left in it.

Do dual compound tyres work? Is the difference noticeable? Looking at the Pilot Road 2 in particular. Currently have Conti Road Attacks - although a nice tyre when I first had them fitted I have started to dislike them and want to try something else!

The idea behind dual compounds is with a harder centre and a softer edge, you get grip and durability so yes I think they do. I remember tyres from as little as 12 years ago and they were rubbish compared to what we have now. I'd always say go for a sports touring tyre as you won't need "super sticky rubber" that never gets up to temperature on the road.

Never tried Pilot Roads, but I really like the Pirelli Diablo Stradas, and I've heard good things about Avon Storms. Give them a go, lots of people like them. Whatever they're like they'll feel better than the knackered ones you have on at the moment!

My old pilot powers were a great tyre and from people who have ridden on both i've heard the pilot road is just as good. hth.

I have Pilot Road 2's.

My last pair of dunlops only lasted less than 2K.

This pair of PR2's are nearly at 5000 miles, and still legal.
Will last maybe another 1000 miles.
I was £200 fitted for them.

Got some PR2'S fitted today and WOW! Not fully run in yet but grip and feel from them is amazing. Can't wait until they have a coule of hundred miles when they are fully run in.

300% better than conti road attacks already... :D

I've a dual compound bridgestone on the rear and no problems, only done about a thousand miles on it it but it's standing up very well

I do believe they work..haven't seen any of the dual compound tyres getting anywhere near as squared as a non dual compound. Although I've seen stepped wear on a Roadsmart that had been on a track, again haven't seen that on a non dual compound tyre, but hey. :shock:

They dont work with me, well fronts any way got a set of 021's only done 3100 miles and the fronts only got about 1.5mm left on the edges and its sqauring off

the 021's are poor compared to my new set of avon storms! not tried them in the wet yet but on dry roads they take all my 33 horses with no problems lol

Ive only ever had one scare on greasy roads with my 021s i think it was the front tried to drop
