Cannon Down
So I'm riding home Thursday morning around 1am and not 100 Meters from home.
As I Pass a junction on my left an on-coming car decides to cut the corner and hit me head on doing about 30. I get flung off the bike, bullseye her windscreen with my face and flip over the car. I've seen similar on you tube before but now I've experienced the flipping head over heels through the air like a rag doll thing myself and I have to say, it's a strange feeling! It's not smooth at all, very jerky, and I think damn...I'm flying...1st rotation... Then my feet flip round again and I feel my head dragged down, the my head whip up and my feet down, and I'm thinking, I'm still flying? ...this probably looks kinda impressive....yes..I actually thought that *sigh* Onto the 3rd rotation I'm thinking I hope I don't land on my *crunch* as I land on my head *sigh*. Pretty much no skidding as I'm told from two eye witnesses that my flight was more vertical than horizontal. Bike is totalled as the front end is crushed, the whole bike fliiped round so it's facing the other way, tank venting fuel at a rapid pace, and the top box flew open and ejected my 5 litre jerry can of petrol to land next to me (Thanks!). So I'm lying there, with my "On Fire Racing" T-shirt under my leathers thinking "Boy..this would be a really bad time for Irony". I get up feeling a little bruised but otherwise fine, the girl in the car seems more shaken than me, she didn't see me apparently..... At this point I check the bike and sure enough lights are on (Switch them off and engage kill switch due to petrol....) so not sure why on a straight road coming towards her she didn't see me but meh.... Turns out she lives about 10 meters from the junction and I'm not much further myself...typical. Police and Ambo turn up very quickly and she admits liability to both so insurance should be ok. Turns out I've sprained my neck, wrist, and chipped a bone in my left big toe which is swolen and makes walking very hard so I'm on crutches but otherwise fine considering! Helmet is a write off as I landed on it but it did the job and the leathers, I'm amazed, unless you really look you have a hard time telling they've been in an off! Pics of bike below: http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._7837950_n.jpg http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._6779076_n.jpg http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._6590688_n.jpghttp://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._1238776_n.jpg All in all I'm pretty lucky, nothing that won't heal in a week or so, and insurance should be open shut! Car was damaged when the bike pushed the front of the car back into the engine block and I've totaled her windscreen. All in all a fun was to start the weekend :) |
Re: Cannon Down
Aww such a shame about the bike, but good the insurance is O&S unlike so many times!
At least you're ok, bikes can be replaced etc. Gotta look cool when you crash, at least you were still thinking like a true orger. :p |
Re: Cannon Down
Yeah despite her faults I loved her and she looked after me right to the end.
And haha yeah well if you're going to go may as well try to make sure you make it look good right :) |
Re: Cannon Down
OH and if anyone needs spare bits for a Trident.....let me know :)
|
Re: Cannon Down
I was going to say....errr what sort of bike is that? from the first pic thats a pretty spectacular squashed front end.
The I see its an old Triumph Sprint/Trident? Its the only bike I can't get me feet flat on the floor on. A mate had one for a while Good to see you came off relatively well considering that bendy bike. Im Indoors knows the feeling of flying well, and the smash on the windscreen too. He says your a lucky fella. It doesn't take much speed to do a lot of mess to both, heal up soon. :-) |
Re: Cannon Down
F**k. Glad you are sort of ok hun. Thats shocking, its a real shame about the bike.

Re: Cannon Down
PFFFFT take more than a car to kill me and more than a chip to stop me riding =p.
Funny you should say that, before my Girlfriend went on holiday she got me two stones (One Jade, one something else) to keep my safe and protect me from Danger. I jokingly said but I've not been in danger for years, surely if the stones are to protect me from danger, it's in their interest to Put me in dager to protect me from? She laughed it off and insisted I carry them anyway. 2 days later I have a nasty and Strange accident yet come out supprisingly unscathed all things considered =p Hmmmm...In the name of science I need a volunteer to carry the stones for afew days :) |
