Things to do in London/Wimbledon
Hi there, I've just started working at Wimbledon for the next 2 weeks, and have Sundays off with nothing to do (no bike unfortunately). I've done all the usual touristy things in Central london already. But I was wondering if you guys could recomend things for me to do on my time off?

Depends on what you like (I'm a bit of a history nerd, but here are my ideas)...
1. The London Eye...it really is very good (as long as you don't have a dozen 9 year old girls in with you, if so, take ear plugs). 2. The Maritime Museum - get on a boat at Westminster, go to Greenwich. Push all the tourists out of the way and stand across the meridian line. But for far more important and interesting (IMHO) are the original maritime clocks for measuring longitude that John Harrison made. 3. Tate Modern (just a walk east from the Imax on the south of the river, then cross the 'once wobbly' bridge and go to St Pauls. The cathedral is amazing inside, well worth a look. 4. If tat is your thing, Camden Market. You can meander through the stalls whilst eating your falafels and hummous :) 5. Brick Lane (east side of the city, just off Whitechapel Road). Go get a curry, although having worked close by for some time, the best curry place is hard to describe how to get to. However, there's plenty of great food to be had at a reasonable price there. 6. Highgate Cemetary - a now protected small wood (and lovely to walk in at this time of year), it's the resting home of folks such as Karl Marx, George Elliot (buried as Mary Ann Evans), Michael Faraday, Dougles Adams, and many more. Not sure if this helps in the slightest, but it's places I like to go as an 'immigrant' londoner :) Jo |
Re: Things to do in London/Wimbledon
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I will be going to matches when I'm not working, but they aren't playing tomorrow or next sunday (unless forced to by weather). Given me some things to think about though.

Go to the common and hit a few pubs in the village on the way to it.
Nice pub ( forget the name ) right opposite kings as you walk away from wimboldon right at the end of the common...always a few pretty bikes parked up to. |
