are bolt down ground anchors any good?
 

Not as good as sunk ones clearly but my landlord wont let me dig up the path.

Again - probably better than nothing however, are they really any cop coupled with a good chain?

How are they fitted - just drilling into concrete or is there more to it?

Surely anything is better than nothing, even on a deterrant scale.

Most come with special expanding bolts that go into the concrete.

Then you hammer ball bearings into the bolt holes to make it harder to drill.

Some have Thatcham approval, some don't.

Again, same with Chains/locks.

Indeed - the rear wheel is chained to a garden gate and the front to a 6ft iron gate at the side of the house. Ive just bought a bike with a trellis frame so am looking to buy something to chain the frame to.

YES!!

Always if possible, go through the frame.

Wheels can be unbolted reasonably quickly.

Plus, you want something to make as much noise as possible, so if you hear the thieving basts trying to pinch your bike, you can go outside and give them a *pleasant telling off and farewell.

*Pleasant used lightly here. Personally I'd go out there with a..............and beep, then I'd get there wotsits and put them in a vice, grab a nearby hammer and beep.........:twisted:

You drill 6 holes then you apply a few tubes of something in the holes if i remember right. The bolts go in and it all sets rock hard. Then you have some metal discs you hammer into the anchor which cover the bolts. Seems very secure and would need a lot of noise to get out of the ground. However i also have an Almax chain attached. No point in a good anchor without a very good chain!
