Brakes upgrade
 

As title say's

I am thinking of upgrading my brakes but don't know which pads to go for and what type of lines should i get.

Is it worth upgrading the rear brake as well or would just doing the front brake be ok.

Finally where is the best place to get the parts that i need. Its a K6 faired.

EBC HH are good with the standard calipers, strong but still road-oriented. There's more powerful but I think you lose too much control/subtlety... With a K6 your standard hoses should still be OK, unless it's got high miles on, rubber hoses work fine but they wear out. (people replace worn out rubber hoses with braided hoses, or replace good hoses and old fluid with new hoses and new fluid, and they're amazed by the difference ;) )

But if you want to do it at the same time, it will never hurt and they're not expensive. I use HEL but they always seem to be too long, even my custom made single line turned up half a foot longer than it was supposed to. Scooby Drew's set for his Ninja were enormous, so we ended up fitting an old SV set I had lying around which were the wrong size for an SV but perfect for a Ninja, funny old game. They're a great company and they always put things right but they can be a pain sometimes. I still like them and I'd use them again.

Do you use both front and rear brakes?

How many miles has your bike done may be worth doing an overhaul

Lines goodridge or hel

Front race set up 2 lines from master cylinder to calipers 1 each get steel banjos instead of zinc you may have to pay extra

Rear may be worth replacing as yours will prob be coming up to 3 years old maybe older now

EBC sintered pads as well

Mine consisted of EBC sintered front and normal EBC rear from a motorfactors

Good ridge hoses front race set up, rear single (zinc fittings i couldnt afford steel) from fleabay

seals from dealer as i needed them that day

Oh, I forgot about the rear. One of the rear calipers I bought had EBC HH in it, and they were horrible, just power and no modulation. Standard hoses can take some bite out of the rear, which a lot of people would say is good, but I don't like it- it reduces bite but it also takes away control. What I've got myself is a steel hose, but the EBC Organics pads- which are basically their least powerful pad. There's still enough power there if I go looking for it but there's a far more usable spread of braking. Or at least, there is for me, but braking is a pretty personal thing so ymmv. Carbon Lorraine A3 would do the same job I expect, I used to use those as front pads and loved them, but I don't think they'd work well with SV calipers. Magic with GSXR calipers and big discs.

(I don't like bite, journalists and racers love a big initial bite but if you're commuting in winter you want to be able to apply a tiny amount of brake without it biting you. This is the main reason I love my single caliper/huge disc setup, it has more power than standard but it's only there when you ask for it- 1% lever gives 1% power, and so on. I can't see how anything else is a good idea, but I seem to be in the minority, most people seem to like a big initial bite. If I want a load of brake, I use a load of lever, I don't want to use 10% of the lever and get 30% of the power when there's only 20% of the grip available.)

eyup shane, still got the hel braided lines from my k5 650 if you're interested :)

another +1 for ebc sinterred hh pads, really nice sharp bite to them. The brakes on my sv1000 felt Rrrrrrubbish when I took it for a test ride (well, compared to the 650 anyway). Think I'll be getting some braided lines and fresh fluid to complete the set up (I've only fitted the ebc pads since I've got it - has improved a bit but think the fresh fluid will do it)

how about going for the 4 pot calipers if you wnt a real brakes upgrade?

I have the adaptor plates beside me but can't be bothered doing them. That apart from a full GSXR front end swap will be the best brake upgrade around.

Hi mate,

Do these come with all the fittings as well, if not do you know where i would be able to get them from?

Also where is the best place to get the pads from as i checked on ebay and cant find any for my bike :(.

A far as I'm aware the lines make use of all the existing bolts, banjos etc.. I'll check with tc though to avoid misleading you :) ebc direct (type ebc direct in google) sell pads direct. Not ridiculously expensive but there's sometimes a discount on postage :)
