Cat & Fiddle now more dangerous

Local news are reporting a 42% increase in "serious" road accidents on the A537 during the last survey. BBC website link doesn't have stats, but local TV news has the percentage.

Good to see that all the policing and speed cameras are having a positive influence on road safety.

I go up there all the time and hardly ever get killed.

Increase in accidents is probably because drivers/bikers are reading those stupid "2 million bikers killed here yesterday" signs they seem to have posted every 5 feet along the road.

I also heard they are planning a ton of speed cameras up there, are these stats a bit of PR to justify the cameras?

Yeah, I've not died round there yet and those road signs annoy me. 'You're going to die if you ride round here'. Great. They have them all up the Snake Pass too. They're resurfacing the first part of that from the Glossop end now.

Some are really wordy too, went camping up Ashbourne at the weekend in the motor and was finding myself reading the stats off the signs rather than looking at the road. Mrs Durbs also remarked on the wordiness of some of them.

Must say though, whenever i go up there for a ride there's always at least a couple of stormtroopers blast past me riding like they are at Oulton Park which is a real shame. Its a great road with lovely views and i'd say 99% of the bikers just enjoy a bimble through the hills and its just the odd few that are alienating the locals to bikers.

The last few times I've been up there it's been early or mid-morning time so it's not too busy and less power-ranger types and I've had a lovely ride round. I do try to avoid sundays though, so it's less bad.

Annoyingly I was down at the Long Hill tea van recently and had this woman start on at me about how 'my bike was too big', 'it looks dangerous' and that 'loads of bikers die round here' so she'd obviously been reading the signs too...

It's not just bikes up there though that are the problem, the 'boy racers' in their chavved up Corsa's etc on the wrong side are just as bad. The last few bad accidents up there that have been in the local rag are young lads who have crashed their cars.

Do you think there'll be signs put up saying '10,000 boy-racers-in-chav-cars killed this week' though? ;)

Why would they do that? Hardly any of them can read...
