After effects of a rejet

Today my tinkering revolved around fitting my new BMC RS race filter, and some 155 jets to match my CCC end can.

So long story short, jets installed, the shim was on top of the e-clip when i first removed the needles, so i swapped that around, the clip is set a the 2nd position from the top, with the shim under it, and the bumper thingy under that. the a/f screws are set a 2 1/2 turns out.

buttened her up and get her started ( finally ) and after a little backfiring over the 6K range she settled dow, and i took her out

Any my god the difference is amazing, it's so amazing it's like driving a completly different SV.

So shock and awe aside, i did some slow runs to see what she would behave like in traffic/filtering, seems i have a little burpy/flat spot around the 2.5 - 3 K rpm range from about 1/8 to 1/4 throttle in 2nd gear, now when i had the bellow off the cards i took a look at the float bowls, but not having a set of calipers to measure them it's a little tough to figure out if they are set to the 7mm they should be at.

From what i've read it could be one of two things that is still leaving me with this little burp.the needles still need another shim, or the floats are to lean.

Any thoughs folks ?

Sounds like it's a little rich going from the pilots onto the needles. Where's YC? Or is it too lean? WAAAAAAAAAA!

As I understand it, if this problematic point in the fueling is feeling snatchy, it's likely to be lean, if it feels fluffy it may be rich. As it's at low rpm that suggests a pilot jet / needle setting rather than it being anything to do with the mains.

How to correct for it I'm afraid I can't say, I tend to leave my bikes in relativly standard trim :)

I'm leaning towards the needles maybe moving the e-clip up to 3 and taking the shim out, it's not a big job, dyno run is on thursday now, which is a shame as it's close tot he weekend again, front end is still wednesday :D

With 1/4 throttle on I'd say you're out of pilot area and more on the needles, try raise it just by a shim worth.

That'll lean it off, do you think that's what is needed?

Dropping the needle leans it off

I guess it all depends on which way your facing, towards the taper is rich, towards the 1st clip position is lean, at the mo, it's on postion 2 1/5 so i shall move it to 3 and see what it's like. in a day or so, maybe tomorrow actually .

Hi drag, are you still using standard needles or are you using the Factory Pro kit you were considering? With standard needles I ended lifting them up so high that at 1/4 throttle I was too rich (on a steady throtle at about 3k revs you can feel a gentle surging). To be honest, I have never got 3k revs perfect (even with the Factory Pro needles), but I love the extra midrange so much I am prepared to live with it. If you are too rich at 1/4 throttle you can compensate by lowering the fuel level, but for every 1.5mm (wouldn't go more than 3mm absolute max) you lower the fuel level you will have to go up one main jet size (approx). To lower the fuel level you need to raise the float height (see section 4-28 of the genuine Suzuki workshop manual, and lay the carbs on their side and tilt them gentley until the float JUST touches the needle valve but doesn't compress the spring).
