torque settings

Just a quick questtion

I'm at work and am going to change my oil & filter but have forgoten the torque setting for the sump bung and how tight to screw up the oil filter

could one of you nice people please advise me:D

Install the new oil filter.

Turn it by hand until you feel that the oil filter gasket has contacted the oil filter mounting surface.

Then, tighten the oil filter two turns using the special tool.

AGGGHHH That would not be my recommendation you do not need any tools etc. Despite what the Suzuki manual says

smear a little oil on the seal before fitting, tighten by hand until the seal meets the engine, Then half a turn. never had one leak, come off etc. and always easy to remove by hand. (Remember hand tight is feel, and everyone will tighten to a slightly different level) I just use to the point where I know the seal faces has mated with the casing completely. and then last last half turn

The enforced "Two Turns" method above could result in the filter going metal to metal with the engine case, can deformation and seal failure etc.

Drain plug for a Curvy is 21Nm.
Also think 2 whole turns after touching for the filter is Waaay too much - I'd go with Timwilky's

You think 2 turns is too much for the filter but don't think 21Nm is too much for the drain plug?

I've never had any trouble tightening the filter up, two turns after seal makes contact. Or just tightening by hand as much as possible.

21nm for the sump

instruction for the filter are written on it if you have an oem one. handtighten the filter followed by two turns with a wrench, do not forget to smear a little fresh oil on the rubber ring.

Please define hand tighten, one gorillas had tighten is far different to that of a 10 year old.

Again with the sump plug, you only need do it sufficiently to deform the crush washer.

Such fittings as these do not need the science of torque. They need feel.

spins free until the rubber seal makes contact with the engine, then two full turns with a wrench.

i agree with the crusher washer theory, but the book does say 21nm.
