Should they bring in these new rules i will be glad that i already passed my test before they brought them in.

4 years restricted, what a joke... in my opinion anyway

Re: New bike learner rules.....

the tiered restriction is annoying but i semi agree with not using the Cbt anymore, so many people ride around like idiots on a scooter with a cbt (yes i know its not everyone) and one days training is NOT enough to ride on the road. oh and the 24 age limit before being allowed unrestricted, NO THANKS!

2 years restricted is beyond stupid 4 years would be unimaginable

Re: New bike learner rules.....

weird set of proposals. Some of it makes sense, from a nanny state perspective, and some of it addresses the weaknesses of the current scheme, like 1 day training and off u go. But then they put in stupid things like 15bhp to 47bhp, which is a ridiculously large jump in power if you want to go down the tiered route. 15bhp is so low as to be dangerous on fast roads - 47bhp is plenty to get yourself into some serious trouble. Imho the current 33bhp restriction is quite a good middle ground but they don't mention this so presumeably they'd drop it.

Also, 4 years before you're unrestricted? thats 100,000 miles to some people!

Don't see them proposing it for cars do you?
At least if you go crackers and kill yourself on a bike its normally just you. Quite often in cars its more than one person. I think the restriction is fine as it is now.

Re: New bike learner rules.....

but with cars its very difficult (unless you/mummy/daddy are very rich) to get so much power for so little money, plus more people die in comparison on bikes so they want those statistics down.

Partly bonkers, and partly good practice

Bonkers are transitions and age limits

Good practice would be to enforce training for all and get a proper licence. L plate idiots are a menace and do little to enhance the reputation of motorcyclists

Somebody needs a broken bottle taking to their nose, either MCN for printing alarmist rubbish, or in the event this is actually true, whoever proposed it.

If it is true, then it will make biking even harder to get into with yet more hoops to jump through. I don't agree with the 2 year 33bhp limit never mind some other b*ll*cks.

It still doesn't target the most common fatality on a bike, which the last time I looked was the "sensible" moderately succesful bloke on a sportsbike at far older than the people this current plague of legislation is aimed at.
