Basically they may be but they aint, commit an offence etc up here and its up here you get dealt with. Its why I had to travel down south again to Preston to deal with an insurance thing after the third party failed to appear the first time in Newcastle  The Newcastle judge would have happily sent it all north of the border if it had been the same traffic laws

Didn't think the law was _that_ different, more the way the court system was set up, sheriffs, prosecutor fiscal, different verdicts ( not proven) etc.

No that's probably largely true in that the written words, road traffic act, etc are the same, certainly anything written before devolution. Newer laws, such as those on number plates, etc are different.

Most people are not that pedantic about the meaning of the world "law", the majority also accept it to mean the interpretation of the law and the way in which offences are dealt with, which in Scotland can be very different. It would therefore be misleading to the majority of people to say that the law is the same.

The Road Traffic Act 1988 is LARGLY the same for both English and Scottish Law. What differs is, as mentioned above, procedures (ie power of arrest and court procedures, etc) and any newer acts.
