Failed my Mod 2 test today
Two minors and one major.
The major was on a NSL single carriageway, large bends and quite wide roads. I saw a red triangle sign showing an N bend, and underneath it a white rectangular sign saying 'Max Speed 40'. The weather conditions wern't great. There was some rain and a fair bit of wind, so i decided to follow the recommended speed of 40mph. After a couple of bends i hear on my radio 'Matt, its a 60mph road'. I failed the test by 'failing to make progress' on that one occasion. Pretty gutted really, because the rest of the ride was near perfect, and i still feel i was in the right for travelling at 40mph because it was a speed i felt comfortable at. Even if i was out on my own i wouldnt have gone much faster than that judging by the conditions. I havnt had a brillaint week, and passing the test today would have been the boost i need. |
Re: Failed my Mod 2 test today
That seems pretty harsh. But those triangles are advisories / warning signs, rather than being a limit sign.
Did you get any minors for anything else, or was it just that one thing ? |
Re: Failed my Mod 2 test today
Aw mate not good. However i would seriously think about contesting that i really would.

Re: Failed my Mod 2 test today
My minors was one late lifesaver, and 'undue hesitation'. Aparantly i didnt go for gaps that i could have safely gone for. Im guessing thats a forced habit of the road ride today trying to find a large enough gap for everyone else following.
60mph is a limit, not a target, and in those conditions theres no way i wanted to do 60 with the weather and the unfamiliar road. |
Re: Failed my Mod 2 test today
Very harsh IMO and I would certainly contest it like Viney says. If you really felt that the conditions didn't allow for 60mph riding then I think it is very unfair to fail you for it.

Re: Failed my Mod 2 test today
I didn't think you could get a major for going under the speed limit.

You won't drive/ride past a school at peak time at 30mph because thats the limit due to the conditions and surrounding environment, whats different to the wet when on 2 wheels? You don't have to ride at the speed limit if the road is wet, and only if its a figure displayed in a blue sign. Was the examiner on a bike or in a car? Also you do not have to leave gaps for the examiner I was told, you are riding for yourself, and which I didn't on my test as I left the examiner at 2 roundabouts as there was a safe gap for myself. Re: Failed my Mod 2 test today
What was your trainers opinion about it? If he was in the de-briefing he could have commented on it. Sorry for you :-( x

Re: Failed my Mod 2 test today
Sorry to hear this mate - as already said, seems very harsh. Look at all angles to appeal - nothing ventured and all that.

Re: Failed my Mod 2 test today
Sorry to hear it! I don't know the rules on "not making progress" but sounds a bit daft to give you a major for it.
