Curvy rear shock

After reading Binky's post about his rear shock, I fear that mine is foobared too!
Think it's probably wise to change it before the trackday at Cadwell.
If anyone has a decent shock for a curvy (standard or upgraded) at a reasonable price :rolleyes: that you want rid of, let me know.
Thanks all

Have you tried ebay Paiste? Check out the cost of old SV shocks and compare to zx10/zx6 and gsxr shocks...

Maybe worth using this as an excuse to buy a newer better shock?

Just so you are aware Paiste. GSXR shocks are too soft for a curvy. If you decide to upgrade the zx6/10 is the best one to go for.

I don't think there is a definitive list, but this table shows a lot of options...

Here is the latest incarnation of the shock table....

YEAR MOTORCYCLE LENGTH SPRING
===== ========= ===== =====

01-03 GSXR600 325.5mm 325#

96-99 GSXR750 345mm 375#

97-00 GSXR600 375mm 375#

00-03 GSXR750 325mm 400#

04 GSXR750 332.5mm 408#

04 GSXR600 332.5mm 425#

01-02 GSXR1000 329.5mm 430#

03-04 SV650 330mm 430# <<<==== stock 2nd gen...

05 GSX-R 1000 332.5mm 450#

03-04 GSXR1000 332.5mm 480#

99-02 SV650 337mm 510# <<<====stock 1st gen

04-07 ZX10R 338mm 540#

03-04 ZX6R(636) 340mm 540#

99-03 GSXR1300(Busa) 330mm 700#

Now from the above you can see that standard pointy shock is 330mm long and has a 430 spring. It is generally accepted that if you weigh over 11st then the standard spring is too soft and something firmer is better. So pick a chock from the table with close to correct length and close to a good spring rate for your weight.

There are loads though. Can't you get some that are stiff enough?

Re: Curvy rear shock

Well there are only 3 that are stiffer which are the zx6, zx10, and then there is the Busa shock which is just silly.

You can't really go with any GSXR shock. I do believe they don't actually fit. The springs have a wider wind and causes clearance issues whilst riding. Basically the spring rubs against the swingarm as it moves up and down.

Re: Curvy rear shock

Thanks for that.
I'm watching a couple of shocks on ebay at the mo. One is a ZX6R (G) shock, which I'm not sure of the age/ spring rating etc. The other is a ZX636 2005 shock which I think is listed in the above.
I'm sure this has been answered a hundred times, but don't I have to buy different bolts to fit the shock too?
