12.4v at tickover, is reg rec knackered?
As per the title. Had to jump start bike due to a dead battery. Multimeter shows 12.5v across the battery at tickover, rising to 14v at above 4-5k revs, just headlights switched on. Switch heated grips on that drops below 12v at tickover. Is my regulator/rectifier knackered? Thanks

Reg/rec sounds alright to me - won't do a lot at tickover but should cap charging voltage at 14-15V by 5000rpm-ish.
If you're having trouble, from what you have written, I would be suspecting battery could be a bit tired. |

There doesn't sound like any faults other than the battery not holding charge. 3-4 years is about all they last with normal use, and when my battery died it wouldn't hold starting charge for even 8 hours after a 50 mile ride. |

Thanks for the advice guys, if it shouldn't be charging until 5k then it seems fine. I'll get a new battery. Goodnight  |

Try trickle-charging the battery (get an optimate, its a good investment)
