Which brake pads?
 

hey .orgers

im looking at geting new pads on the front of my curvy but there is to many, i will be geting my pads from wemoto.com but they have loads which are best i dont mind the price as i could get any of them

so which of the belowe are the best ? or what is the diffrent between them ? also what is HH & GG ?

Lol well in my 1999 SV, I used EBC organic pads, but the sintered ones should also be ok

EBC are a very good manufacter, go with them and you wont be wrong :)

I have no experience of any except for the EBC HH on my curvy. They gave good bite and certainly stopped the bike quick enough.

There are different part numbers for left and right pads on the front of the SV as one caliper is essentially a mirror of the other.

There are then 2 classes of pad:
Organic (GG) pads are equivelent to original equipment type pads. They last well, don't wear the discs badly, but some feel that the bite and power they offer is less than that offered by more aggressive ones.

Scintered (HH) pads can offer better bite and outright power, but some feel that they wear discs more aggressivly than they like, and they may not be quite as good when cold. Think of them like sports tyres, not for everyone's needs, but most think they're a useful choice.

For what it's worth I'v used EBC and Goldfrenn and they've both been fine (though neither on an SV).

Lozzo reccomends Vesrah pads as they're often OE pads which then have other people's names written on them. A few people use Hein Gerricke pads as they seem to be Carbon Lorraine pads re-badged.

The EBC HH will eat your discs over time. If you do a lot of miles then i would take this into account.

I use Carbonne Lorraine A3+ Pads. I still feel that these are as good as the EBC HH pads, yet low wear on the disc. I use the HG variant of the pads, but they are the same. Worth checking out if you can get to a Hein Gericke.

The HH and GG are the ratings of the pads in dry and wet weather. HH being the highest rating apprently. A sintered pad will always give better braking efficency. How that pad reacts with discs and wear etc, is another matter.

Generaly, sintered ovver superior stopping power, but some people have claimed they can be hard on discs. the standard pad is probably an organic (kevalar-type?) material, which is kinder to discs. I use the organic (standard) pads on my curvy, and i do alot of hard braking (im in london!) and I havnt yet had a problem

Which ever you get, they'll do the job well :D
