constant high pitch noise near the tank?

i have noticed a constant high pitch noise near the tank when the bike is running, similar to the fuel injection noise when you turn the key.

was just wondering what this is and is it anything to worry about ? cheers

You're probably the hearing the fuel pump.
When the ignition is switched on, the pump starts and pressurises the fuel system but as the engine isn't running the fuel pressure will soon rise to the cut-off point and so the pump stops. As soon as you start the engine the injectors pass fuel, thus the system pressure falls and the pump starts again.

PS. The pump is inside the tank.

cheers sid,

so its normal ... should the pump noise go off at any point when the engine is running or is it constaly pressurising the fuel

Good question, I don't know.
I suppose at tickover when the fuel consumption would be very low the pump might switch off, albeit briefly, certainly when the engine is being used to any degree I imagine the pump would run pretty much constantly.
