Starter motor problem perhaps?

Well this evening I'm totally Pee'd off.

Went to start the bike and would it start, would it hell. Thinking my starter needs a overhaul, so looks like my mission to hit 500 miles by Thursday won't happen.

Can anyone point me in the quickest direction to buy a new brushes plate, for my poorly curvy.

Cheers in advance.

Rob.

When trying to start, it turned over very slowly, first thoughts were battery, however after trying it again, got a ticking noise, which i have had before, but on a car and turned out t be starter.

SM, you think i should be looking somewhere else?

Gutted, cos had the bike a month before passing and we went through it hoping to discover any problems, never once played up on start up.

the ticking noise, if its coming from the right hand side under the seat is the starter solenoid clicking and is a sign of a weak battery from my many experiences with the clicky noise monsters under there.

And call me Spidey :)

Cool,

I have a poke about tomorrow, thanks for the pointer.

very simple way to test your starter, Just get a set of jump leads connected to a car battery (still in the car is fine :-) ), connect red to car battery + terminal then red to the SV starter motor terminal, it will likely have a rubber cover over it. Then black lead from -ve on the car battery, touch the other end to one of the starter motor mounting bolts (make sure the bike is in neutral before attempting this).

Very likely the starter will spin up just fine.

It'll be a weak or knackered battery.

Cheers Flymo,

I'll stick it on charge tomorrow before i go to work, will be easier than messing around at 06:15 and annoying the neighbours .... already had a complaint about waking all the house up.

Think i might need to loose the Micron exhaust, shame cos it don't half sound meaty, but new license and all, can't afford 3 points at this stage.

Can you not fit a baffle to the micron? Seems a shame to get rid of it for something almost as noisey unless you lost your mind and are thinking of going back to standard.

I've got to look into it, would really like to keep it. Never had the standard, but heard one the other day and didn't really think much of it.
