Renewing wires

I notice a few sections of dodgy wires on my ten years old SV (lost of flex, some cracks on plastic sleeve and a build up of substance in between the strands of wire inside the sleeve) and would like to replace them, are there any specific type of wires to buy (as a replacement or a upgrade in terms of better heat/moisture protection and conducting quality)

Thanks o mighty org! :notworthy:

I found it easier to just replace the whole loom, though if you have the free time then it is something you can do.

Haven't you got a loom to replace it with Lucas?

Any good auto shop will sell the correct types of wires mate, colour co-ordination may be an issue tho as they are set to match the wiring diagrams in Haynes manulas (haynes matches whats on the bike of course, not the other way round, lol) and may cause you issues in the future if you dont keep the colurs exactly as they are.

If its a temp fix till you get round to fitting the new loom then of course you can just label black wire to say "green with orange dashes" etc as a bit of a cheat ;)

Tape the cables up with insulation tape of the colour of choice.

As long as the cable is of the x-sectional area is the same it should be the same.

That won't help the oxidised and possibly fractured cable.

Lucas if the copper has gone black/green, water has probably got in through cracks in the sheath.

i assumed he was replacing the cables and just mentioned taping them up to aid fault finding.

the spare loom is just sitting in a corner at the moment, I get tangled up every time I go near it. (being me I'll need a few days to do it, maybe x'mas then )

Well I've done mine once before so if I'm in London mid week then I'm more then able to help. Is it the front and main loom?
