How long will the battery last?
My bike is ten years old in September ( but it's a 2000 model) and is on it's standard battery still. A optimate charger has been used a few times but it's still holding a charge. How long do batterys last?

Re: How long will the battery last?
We thought we were doing well when we had our curvys. Both still on their original batteries after 6 and 7 years.:)
Out of curiousity, do you run with your lights on during the day? And have your ever replaced the reg/rec? |
Re: How long will the battery last?
As far as I can remember one brakelight bulb and two indicator bulbs. But about five years ago I blew two 15amp fuses all the rest are still going strong (I'm touching wood as I say that)

Oh sorry I forgot to say yes lights on all the time

Re: How long will the battery last?
i think it all depends on the bike - mines not an sv, but the battery is 8 years old now and i can leave it for 5 weeks without touching it and it'll still start first time (touch wood) so i think its all about the bike and how its been used

Re: How long will the battery last?
Yea I think if you use it all year round you must keep it in good nick

Re: How long will the battery last?
My SK1 is on its original battery (8.5 yrs), though it doesn't get used very much and gets maintenance charging regularly.

Re: How long will the battery last?
Top quality battery will last a very long time if it is well maintained. My original curvy one lasted 8 years and would have done even better if I hadnt left the bike parked all day with that stupid parking light on.Battery completely flattened by that and was never quite the same again.

Re: How long will the battery last?
As far as I am aware, the battery in my 1999 curvy lasted almost ten years. It was replaced as a precaution last winter when it was tested and found to be inefficient; the give-away was my heated grips not working. Although, my heated grips are again not working, which leads me to think the battery really was fine but the heated grips are just balls.
As long as you dont deep-cycle the battery very often (lets face it, it happens sometimes!) - by that, i mean discharging it lots either by just running it flat (leaving lights on when engine not running!) or because you start the bike up, then stop the engine, then start stop etc (lots of short journeys), then the battery should remain in good condition. |
Re: How long will the battery last?
Mine lasted about 9 years but was starting to lose charge in the winter when it stands for a few weeks at a time. It would turn the motor but not enough juice to fire the plugs effectively. Charged it up once or twice but it went the same way, just too old.
