help, lost my only bike key!

I last used my sv for work friday, came in put the key down on the table. i noticed saturday it had moved, so probably one of my 2 kids picked it up,( 2 any 4 yr old) get to late monday night and thinking work tomorrow and cant fin my only key.

Ive hunted everywhere, but looks like its gone. I dont have a spare, or the tag with the key number on it, and my owners handbook hasnt had the details filled in.

Is there any way I can find the key numbers? i rung my local suzuki stealers, who said if I remove a lock they can get it sent off to match up a key, but ideally I need a quicker method, and something not too expensive as Im trying to get my car back on the road too.

Thanks, Lee

Oh yeah, its an `01 curvy.

Have you got the rider's handbook?
Are you the first owner?
Was the key number written into the handbook?
There's a box for the number on page 15, but someone has to write it in.

Stop looking, it'll turn up I bet. It always happens that way eh?

Don't want to worry you but when my daughter was 18 months old she "planted" my car keys in the garden and I didn't find them for two years! Thankfully the week before I'd been out to get two copies made at Mr Minit as we only got the one key from the previous owner - boy was I lucky!!!

That doesn't really help you does it? Sorry.

You have the V5? If so....call a locksmith that deos vehicle locks.....there are loads of mobile locksmiths around that can come out and sort you a new key. I had it happen with my car once and it took about an hour and cost £80 but I ended up with two new keys.

It was tricky because I didn't have the numbers needed either so it tooks lots of phonecalls by the locksmith and so on until it was all sorted and his little machine set the key up to work the alarm and immobiliser. All sorted......time to get your yellow pages out!!!

I had to phone my daughter on holiday in Malaysia to ask where she had hidden my bike key. The cow wanted me to do some work for her and hid the key to stop me playing out and forgot to put it back.

I never had a number tag with my GS500.
A dealer said Suzuki do not know the key numbers and you can not identify it with the barrel.
Any way doesnt matter to me about a spare key as my barrel is knackered you can take the key out with the engine running.

I need to save up for a full set as I don't want one key for the ignition and one key for the tank.

It's possible to take two or three different locks and make them all operated by one key, depends how mechanically minded you are. I've done it on a couple of bikes before.

All you do is take the barrels out, remove the pins[1], swap them round until with the key in the barrel is smooth and re-assemble.

Helps if you have a spare broken lock though for spare 'pins'.

[1] Actually they're plates rather than pins in the case of the SV.
