am I likely to get nicked
The tax ran out on my car end July, after a week I contacted the woman at work who sorts it, she said talk to the lease company, they say they sent it to xxxxxxx mid July. I contact xxxxxxx and get no reply. mail is returned she is on holiday. tail end of last week I finally get her, she talks to the lease company, they say they sent it mid July. off they go for proof of delivery that says mid July zzzzzz in HR signed for it. Somewhere it has been lost. There is no record of it being sent on to me.
So they have asked the lease company to get a duplicate issued direct to me. In the meantime I have a month out of date disc in the window. Am I likely to get pulled. I assume ANPR etc will know a disc was issued for my car so more likely a roadside can we have a word sir. I know some on here advocate keeping the disc under seats, in wallets etc. Do you still run a risk? of being done for failure to display |
Re: am I likely to get nicked
on the system it will show theres a upto date tax disc in place, but as you said you could still get a fixed penalty (£60) for failing to display a valid tax disc.

Re: am I likely to get nicked
When I sold my CBR I gave them my last 3 tax discs still attached to the letter it comes with. Never even had a tax disc holder on my old CBR. Got pulled a couple of times and the feds asked if I had the disc (they know you have) and that's as far as it went. You can, however, be fined for failure to display.
Haven't got a tax disc holder on my new bike either. It was tacky so I took it off. |
Re: am I likely to get nicked
depends how the copper is fealing, I've been let off for not displaying twice, once in car by accident as holder fell off and i put it in the glove box, bike i never display anyway

Re: am I likely to get nicked
nah it's all computerised now so they can loose your details, i mean check remotly =p
Unless you get a real ass or manage to really get on a coppers bad side the worst they will probably do is have a word about not displaying. I had mine in my tank bag and got told I could still be fined but let on my way all the same. |
Re: am I likely to get nicked
You are safe from the DVLA patrols because they always go through head office for authority to seize, and your vehicle is technically taxed, and you're also safe from police ANPR systems as vehicles don't go on there until 3 months out of date. You are potentially at risk from some of the borough warden schemes where they can get vehicles towed if they're not displaying (seem to remember someone on here had their bike lifted from a parking lot) but they are few and far between. You are technically committing an offence of "failing to display" and if a copper really wanted to be nasty they could give you a £30 FPN for that (The £60 ones are for vehicles that don't have tax rather than those that just don't display it) but as a general rule you would have had to do something else to deserve that. If it's a company car, reasonably tidy, insured and you explain why you haven't got one (perhaps have a copy of one of the e-mails in the car) then I'd say the chance of you getting done is very slim. Won't stop you getting pulled up for it though so probably best not to have a drink.....
