oil pressure switch lead location
 
Going to test the fuel level indicator light and it says to first remove the oil pressure switch lead wire coupler but cant make it out in the picture. Where abouts is it and what's its visual description?

Well the oil pressure switch is the little thing next to the oil filter, shown here without it's little rubber cap and no lead attached:

Follow the lead up from this and you should find a little inline coupler, from memory it's white, no idea where it sits though.

If you look on the RHS of the picture on the angled tube coming up from the cross frame brace there is a clip with two yellow wires and a white connector, that I believe is the one you want.

From memory it's a pita to disconnect you may find it's easier to disconnect at the switch itself.

Had a quick look and there is a thin black wire coming from down beside the oil filter area (kinda hard to see exactly as the bellypan blocks that area) and it runs straight upward to a white (single black wire) coupler. This it? or is it inside the thick ribbed covering that runs also from beside the filter location off toward the rear of the engine..?

Yes, although from memory it's actually blue/black but that might just be the other side of the coupler IYSWIM.

No, that's the starter lead.

Cool. The coupler is located just inside the top of the frame so looks handy enough to disconnect, but i'll have the tank up anyways for the fuel indicator test.

....also, is there a setting / symbol on my multimeter to enable me to use it as a jumper wire for testing or am i better off just using any old wire for that?

Are you testing because you've run out without the light functioning or because you're worried about it?

Are you wanting to test the light or the switch because they involve very different methods?

Gona test the fuel level indicator light and then probably move onto the actual sensor in the tank test.

Have always just refuelled in or around 100 mls as i didn't trust the light, but recently it died at 110ish with no warning light. Fuel light did come on constantly when the bike cut out which was pretty immediate after one or two splutters, but it does this anyway when ignition is on but bike isn't started.

Its hard to judge the underlying problem as i never fully filled my tank. My tank cap drain tube was rusted off at the fuel cap end, so if i filled up to the brim fuel would come out the hole left by the join and out onto the tank. Subsequently i never quite filled my tank up fully. But ive fixed the drain hose back into place with some instant steel stuff and it seems to be holding fine, so now i can fill up to the brim no bother.

The last 2 times ive refuelled ive had 100mls on trip - taking 10ltrs to lip / 104mls on trip - taking 12ltrs to lip.

I dunno, i reckon theres something going on i just cant put my finger on it, but at least i can fill my tank fully now as trying to do the math without was chasing tails. I presume if the fuel light comes on, as in when you are goin to start the bike that the light is fine and i'll should probably just look at the probably fubar'd sensor in the tank..
