Dead bike, Battery burst I think

Went out to use the bike this afternoon, first time since finishing a 350mile run on monday.
Wouldn't start, no lights, no instruments, nothing.
Thought about bump starting it then saw some white encrusted residue down the rhs of the bike.
Was late for an appointment, so wheeled it back into the garage, unfotunately I probably wont get any time to strip it until Monday or tuesday.

I am assuming its some for of catastrophic battery failure as in its fractured or overflowed in some way, wont know for definate until next week.
I'll take some pics and post up what I find when I get a chance.

Just wondering if anyone had had something similar...Difficult without more details I know, sorry

i'm not mechanically minded but i would say that if the battery is leaking then you need to remove it asap to stop further damage.

Yup.Did you notice any nasty chemical type smells when you last parked up the bike?
When the reg fails it often puts far too much charge through the battery which cooks it.It then overheats and can split.Dont just buy a new battery and hope for the best. You need to get a multimeter on the electrics to find out whats gone wrong.

Yup get a mulimeter KG so you can test the charging system, if you put another battery on with a faulty regrec it'll just shag the new battery.

Be carefull with the residue, wash it off with plenty of water.

White encrusted residue eh? :smt003 I know you love your bike, but there are standards to uphold...

Get the battery out asap though if you possibly can, there's a lot of acid in there. Only takes a couple of minutes as you know. And lots of water if it does turn out it's leaked or split. I've got a spare battery somewhere, it's old and rubbish but it'll do as a stunt double if you want to test the charging without risking a new battery?
