Radiator cap stuck
Am wishing I had never started my own servicing at the moment as this is all taking far to long!
I am currently trying to flush the old coolant so I can replace with fresh stuff. However I cannot for the life of me get the radiator cap off. Haynes says that it should turn anti-clockwise then push down and turn to remove. I can get a small movement maybe 5mm anti-clockwise but cannot depress the cap at all and it will not budge any further. Any help appreciated before my fingers fall off :( K5 Pointy, fully faired. |
Re: Radiator cap stuck
Have you undone the locking bolt?

Re: Radiator cap stuck
Oh and use a big rag, its much better for grip and doesn't hurt your fingers.

Re: Radiator cap stuck
According to the Haynes manual after K2 (I think) they got rid of the locking bolt. Where is it located just in case someone has replaced the radiator with an older one although this is unlikely?

Re: Radiator cap stuck
Ah, I have a K3 and it has a locking bolt. Just check under the rim of the cap and you should see a tiny little phillips head screw thing that needs to come out. That was the case on mine in any case.

Re: Radiator cap stuck
Cant find any locking screw and still can't get it off. I have not taken all the fairing off yet as was hoping to avoid that. I may leave it for the moment and put it into the garage in the near future for them to fight with!

Re: Radiator cap stuck
tried just getting some WD40 on there? Mine on my curvy unscrews (like one would expect), but it does need some effort. Apply some elbow grease!

Re: Radiator cap stuck
K7 also has locking bolt !

Re: Radiator cap stuck
Locking bolt on mine was just a tiny little bolt/screw easy to find on inspection. Although they're not up to much anyway as I've sheered oen ebfore by not noticing it was there and turning regardless :smt053: Someone might have bodged it on or something. As above I'd just put a rag on it maybe wear a glove give it a spray with penetrant and rely on brute force. Have you an oil filter wrench or alike?
