redundancy advice
 

right mighty org, I'm in need of some advice, last Thursday I was made aware that I am being made redundant. I got taken into the office and was leaving the office 15minutes later. at the moment I am on my consultancy period, I've got to go in for a meeting tomorrow and got some questions to ask.

now what I would like to know is did my employer need to tell me I (and everyone else I was against) was 'at risk' of redundancy? this all came as a bit of a shock!

I am employed until the end of the month, but being paid in lieu of working my notice, so I'm off job hunting at the mo. but being told that you have to go home and don't need to come back put of the blue is just a shock!

When we did it at our company, we did it two ways which were:

1. make up your mind first, place them at risk let them not carry on working, pay them in lieu of notice, have them come back in for meetings and then in a month finish them on payroll (we also did comp agreements)

2. Place everybody at risk while you make up your mind as to who is going in the month, interview everybody then make your decision at the end.

If you can phone citizen advice.... I don't know to much as in rules etc as I only deal with the admin part!

i was made redundant yesterday, got work* untill the end of next week and im going to citizens advice on friday, what they are giving me seems fair but i still want to screw them over as they're a bunch of nob faced nobsters

*im actually purposely not doing anything, just stood about on the phone :geek:

Personally, I would ring ACAS and forget the CAB, Acas are moe likely to give you the answers you want.

I used them once, though this was some years ago, your much more likely to get better advice and quicker than the CAB.

I think that they are required to let everyone know if they are at risk.
The consultation period is used to let you know what is happening but is also an opertuinity for you to come up with ways as to keep your job i.e working less hours for a period, moving into a different job within the company etc.
If the company is reasonable and are really looking for solutions rather than a labour cull they will listen to any ideas you come up with.
