Pressed stater button and the bike dies!
Yesterday I went to go out for a ride - turned key in ignition, all lights etc came on, pressed the starter button and all went dead.
Today I have been out looking over the bike, checked all fuses including the main 30 amp fuse, all ok. Checked battery voltage, 12.43V so all good. Then decided to try the key again, and all of a sudden everything was working ok again, lights dash etc all on - then pressed the starter button, and all went dead again, as it went dead I heard a sort of click coming from the rear end of the bike, roughly near the fuesbox. Again, checked all fuses and all ok. The bike is a K5 model. Any help would be much appreciated |
Re: Pressed stater button and the bike dies!
Double check & change your ignition fuse, there shoudl be a spare in the fuse box.

Re: Pressed stater button and the bike dies!
Hi have just done that - still no luck. There are no electrics at all - no parking lights.
The bike is fitted with a datatool system 3 alarm. The alarm will arm and dissarm, but when the button is pressed even the indicators will not blink. Could it be something to do with the alarm? |
Re: Pressed stater button and the bike dies!
possibly, I too have a datatool alarm and had the same problem. But mine was a case of the ignition fuse going and upsetting things. I got the lights etc but when pressed the ignition switch it turned everything off.
Now you're getting no parking lights/anything have you checked the main fuse? It's in a seperate container from the rest of the fuses, can't remember where it is on the pointy though sorry! possibly under seat near battery and rest of the fuses |
Re: Pressed stater button and the bike dies!
Check the connection to the battery.
If one of the terminal connections is loose then you get a good enough connection for the load required to light the lights, but the started causes too much draw and it dies. Happened to me. |
Re: Pressed stater button and the bike dies!
You checked the inline fuse for the datatool alarm? On mine they installed it behind the offside panel under the seat, red mini blade fuse.

Re: Pressed stater button and the bike dies!
Check the starter relay / solenoid. On my curvy, might be the same on a pointy, its a little plastic box under the riders seat / behind a panel below the riders seat on the right hand side (non side-stand side). Could be a bit of funny-ness going on there

Could be on its way out. Try another voltage test when pressing the starter button. |

I then took off both terminals, gave them a good clean up and applied a bit of grease when re-assembling - now the bike seems fine, although still don't feel 100% convinced that that was the root cause, but hopefully I won't have that problem re-appear. Thanks all for your responses. |
