Telling the truth: is a waste of time*

* in my experience

Right, need a bit of a rant but the jist of it is truthing it never works unless you're on TV. Most of you can stop reading here.

So on Friday rang up my insurers regarding a renewal at £250 conversation went like this:

them:....and thanks to your newly acquired 1 years NCB we can offer you the cheap...
me:*sigh*..erm how is that possible?
them: because you've been insured with us for a year and not had a claim
me:I had a claim in october
them:we have no record of that sir
me: erm I'll ring you monday...

So rang them today and to cut a long, boring yet slightly amusing set of phonecalls short. I had to ring up the underwriter myself as the broker wouldn't believe I'd had a claim despite admitting they had a record of me 'phoning up to check you were still insured after an accident'. I rang back the broker and asked them to ring the underwriter themselves as she wouldn't take my word I'd spoke to them, came back to me and said no you've not had a claim, I suggested she tried again and this time accepted my offer of using the claim reference number I had and 'oh sorry sir looks like you do have a claim there's been a mistake it's been linked to the wrong policy'. crap.
At the end of the phonecall I asked cheekily if I could have a discount on my renewal for my 'ridiculous honesty'. She said she'd ring me back tomorrow after it's all sorted

Will it be anywhere near to £250 and will I actually get any sort of discount? Place your bets now.....

So for forcing them to accept something I knew would cost me money my quotes have gone from average £250ish to £460, to £600 ish, to £1000, £2000, to 'to be honest I wouldn't touch you with a bargepole'. And all along I knew deep down it would have been near impossible for me ever to get found out, anyone else done anything stupid recently?

Not really stupid though from my perspective.

I imagine if you had another off whilst insured with the new policy they would 'suddenly' find out you have falsely accepted the fact you had 1 years NCD.

Swings and roundabouts as they say...cheaper premium would be good for the present, but no doubt it would bite you in the **** at a later date.

Try Bikesure...cheapest by far for me. (Next lowest quote was £300 more)

I know I like to think that too but the fact it was marked as paid for on a policy with a different broker and not linked to this policy makes me think otherwise :smt011

Nah they're quoting about £600 :(

I was getting astronomical quotes for mine, (as in £2k+!!), but eventually got it down to just under £400. A bit of time spent looking, and a lot of time spent moaning and whinging can pay dividends when it comes to insurance Mr Numbers!

(PS - it was Carole Nash that I got mine from in the end)

+1 for CN - they're the ones who gave me a reasonable quote on the trumpet with no no-claims.

I tried adrian flux and had a feeling they're the same as CN, hopefully wrong though will give em a ring tomorrow. Also gotta try this theory of adding some one old as an additional rider to lower premiums. I can't see the logic behind it to be honest but only takes 5 mins.

P.S Never trust comparison sites, I've skipped the buy online button and rang up about 4 companys after geting a price on different comparison sites to confirm details and they've all had incorrect details.

Comparison sites arent that bad, I find that you generally get a few companies ring you back asking if you're going to take the insurance out. I had one ring back, Isaid no as they were too expensive so they knocked £150 off - result
