EPIC fail - Yup me!!

I left work today after a poor disciplinary hearing, but thats another story (I still have a job, just....).

Im very emotionally upset, and they said I could leave for the day, so I damn well took it. What makes me happy, riding Nelli. So i go home, kit straight up, go straight out.

I ponder where to go, and think about popping into Brands, see whats on, then I can go down the coast, get a pub lunch and generally let all the bad things go and be happy on my pride and joy... So I thought.

So, I get to Brands, its lunch, so I ride into the pits, park her up, set the alarm and have a wander round. Its an exoctic day, Ferrari's, lots or Porkies, a Koinsenegg, Lambos, Radicals, race Ginetta G50's etc..

I get back to my bike, alarm off, nothing. No lights, no ignition, nothing. I call the alarm guys, they offer some advice about connections and the battery. I get the help of some car drivers and try to charge the battery, nothing. Check fuses, nope, killswitch etc, nope... I resort to the AA :(

2 exceeding boring hours later (theres only long you can watch an open pitlane with the same cars), the AA man comes, checks everything, can't work it out, he suggests the alarm immobiliser has failed. He has to call a bike recovery man. Another 2 hours.. Nice. The bloke did not seem to fully understand what he was doing and I was a little worried about the way he was poking around the electrics. He says it'll be another 2 hours, with my day so far, im ready for emotional meltdown.

Luckily, 1 hour later, Mr recovery man turns up. Im happy he's well early (4hrs since first call). I need to move my bike to the back of the transporter... It won't move, its in gear, sudden "oh my word, you could be the biggest muppet in the world" enter my head...

I fuffle it into Neutral (problem with Benellis), hit the fob, turn the ignition on, ahhhhhh cr4p the ignition lights flicker on.... You ARE the biggest muppet in the world.

I cannot tell him now, he's here, so i remove the key and play dumb. It turns out this AA bloke is actually awesome, taking great care with Nelli. Soft sponges around the straps, small things that make a huge difference. I had a damn good chat on the way home, still feeling slightly sheepish about the major error i'd made.

I got home, waited till he left. Turn the ignition on, and boom fire up first time.

EPIC failure on my part, but really, im happy shes still working. Mental note, no ignition lights, check im in Neutral. Didn't help daddy Benelli bible was on holiday so could not check with him first.

Biggest recovery truck for tiny bike ever...

Good to hear that it was nothing serious!

This is one of the reasons I never go near the bike to "let off steam", your judgement isn't always perfect under such conditions.

I wasn't angry, i know not to go out when angry. I was taking it very easy.

But plain stupiditty on my part shows my mind obviously wasn't all there at all.

err, so on your bike, the alarm is wired up to the gear position sensor and cant be disabled until its in neutral, thats a weird setup

at least you know that there was nothing serious and well done for brightening up my night and having the balls to admit your error :D

One of those days, could have been a much worse day though couldn't it? At least it wasn't an expensive fix.

Hitting the kill switch instead of the high beam whilst on a right hander is also pretty stoopid as well.
