Hi i'm new here and looking to buy an SV.
Right well first off i'm looking at getting a 650SV and would like some advice. I've had a 01 CBR 600F1 with lots of trick bits (only sold as i have gone back to uni so i needed some funds) and i've just bought a ER5 (before anyone says why it was to help a friend out plus it was very cheap).
As for the SV my friend has one and i just love the sound of the V-Twin, i've seen one on an Xreg but it has 35K on it, it has a full MOT but is there in particular that i should look for? Oh it has a full fairing as well. |

Can't help re the bike, but welcome to the forum. Stick around.
Oh......they do sound amazing don't they! Squirrel_Hunter comes to mine and Stretchies regularly and we can hear him coming WAAAAY before we can hear other bikes coming! |
Re: Hi i'm new here and looking to but an SV.
Look for the usual Suzuki lack of quality (bit harsh, but true) Rust is a problem if it's been used in the winter. Brake calipers siezing up, rear caliper pins completely solid, other than that if it's been regularly serviced there isn't a lot to go wrong with them.
Welcome to the site btw :) |
Re: Hi i'm new here and looking to but an SV.
Mr C has made good points there. Ask for some proof of oil changes etc; 35,000 miles isnt that bad a milage, SV engines have been known to go onto 120,000 miles or greater with just the regular servicing (oil changes, spark plugs, filters, valve clearances).
No real bad points about SV's, although the earlier (1999-2002) models had a bit of a weak voltage regulator/rectifer. Don;t let this put you off; the problem is easily diagnised and easily fixed if you were to have an issue :D Just inspect the whole bike, checking for signs of copper slip on the brake pads / pins, a well lubricated chain and an engine oil level that is about halfway in the sight-glass, or a little above half way. SV's can consume a bit of oil, depending on how one rides, so dont let this put you off either :) A good owner won't let the level run low :) |

i would pay about £800-£1000 for that bike, depending on condition. have a look in the for sale section, plus there is loads of info and advice on buying a SV, if you do a search (as your new, i will find it for you) |
