Economical driving directions
Hi, Do you know of any websites that offer most economical driving routes? I think some Tom Toms now offer this.
I'm disinclined to take motorway routes that add say 25% to the distance by using motorways to save 15% in time. Although I know you get better economy on the motorway than cutting cross country, but where's the cut off point? I doubt it's 25% better economy on the motorway? :smt102 Thanks :) |
Re: Economical driving directions
Depends what you drive/ride like. I can only speak for cars, but if I'm doing a long motorway run, the difference can be huge. I used to live in London and commute back to wales on the weekends. Drove my little Saxo (first car) and I tested this out.
Filled the tank on Friday evening and went home sticking to 80mph all the way on thr motorway. Did the same back. I didn't use the car when in wales, and only used it for work commutes when I was back in London. That tank of fuel lasted me until the following Friday when I had to pull in to Leigh Delamere to top up. The following Friday, I filled up in thre evening again and did the exact same thing as before, but I drove at 65mph for all motorway miles. That tank also got me back and fore to work all that week, back to Wales AND back to London the following weekend and I eventually had to fill up on the second Tuesday. Next weekend, I used the back roads and had to fill up to get to work on the Tuesday. It was all the changes in speed, stopping and starting at lights and junctions etc. Just ate through the fuel, so since then, I use motorways and take it easy! |
