I replaced the original reg/rec in my 1999 curvy with a genuine suzuki part. The new part was of a differant design than the unit i replaced, so maybe suzuki knew there was a problem and amended the reg/rec.

so far, so good...fingers crossed

Why do people get fussed about having a CBR reg/rec?

Get one that fits, it doesn't matter what bike it comes from. As long as it's intended for a three phase, 12V negative earth system* and comes from a bike that has something like the same level of electrical equipment it'll be fine.

*Which is just about everything nowadays.

Sid,

I'm not hung up on having a cbr, but after reading through the searches and past comments seemed to favour the cbr.

I'd just rather buy something thats recommnded and hopefully have some stress free time with the bike.

Good morning all.

Over the years I've changed more rec/reg units on Hondas than on any other make. Although this could be due to deficiencies in the alternator design.

The CBR600rr unit seems pretty reliable, especially when fitted to a different make of bike. The same unit is used on injected Blackbirds, & VFR800's, On these their performance is pretty poor, again I suspect due to the aforementioned deficiencies.

Electrex units are pretty good in my opinion, bolt straight on & come with a 12 month guarantee. Which any secondhand Rec/reg wont.

The choice is yours.

Cheers.

Hi all

I've been looking into this too and from what I've read the CBR unit can fit into the same mounting points as the original reg/rec but because it is a much bigger and more capable unit it runs a lot cooler and is less likely to overheat.

There's a picture heavy fitting guide for it on the SVRider forum:

Hope this helps :-D
