Instrument LED's
Dose anyone know what voltage the small led's are on the instrument panel?
Iv been looking on the usual websites, RS, Farnell ect.... and I Have found the LED's however there all rated between 3-5 Volts. Just wondering if anyone Knows if they are 5v or 12V, I don’t want to risk popping something if the Instrument panel is £150. Cheers |
Re: Instrument LED's
It's highly unlikely they're 12V LEDs - they won't be wired directly to a 12V source. There should be some resistors in the circuit path to set the voltage to the required level.
And anyway, if you put an LED in with too low a rating, all you'd do is pop the LED itself. Nothing else should be affected. The tricky bit is the soldering. Look here under "Instrument Bling": http://www.chewys-stuff.co.uk/ if you want a kit with instructions. |
Re: Instrument LED's
Send Adam (Dirtydog) a PM. He sent me a link a while ago to a site that does straight swap LEDs but I can't remember off the top of my head what it was.

Ah OK, my mistake. Must've missed that

Re: Instrument LED's
Cheers Guys, I’ve sorted it now.
I got some Surface mount LED's from RS Components. They are ratted at 3.5v. They come in packs of 10 and are 30 Pence each! They are a total pig to get off, I could have done with three pairs of hands, but re-fitting them was easy It took about 15 mins to do all eight. Just tried it today and it looks blue :) |

This if for the Blue LED's
the link is: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/s...duct&R=6545127 If it dosn't work the part number is: 654-5127 |
Re: Instrument LED's
Thanks mate. It's something i've been considering for a while - I might do it at some point in the future. Getting the right parts is half the battle.
