Everyone doesn't react the same way!

In light of recent events on the .org, I'll tell you a couple of short stories. If you find them interesting, feel free to comment, if you don't find them interesting then call me a spam poster! ;)

Story 1

A few years ago I used to frequent a car forum. One of the forum members used to post sometimes quite strange threads that where not car related, but interesting and amusing. I found out after becoming freindly with the lass, that she suffered from manic depression/bi-polar disorder or whatever it's called. There where some members of the forum who used to give her a lot of stick and slagging off about her posts. Myself and other members defended her posts because they where funny and interesting. One day after a particularly hostile response to one of her threads, she went away and killed herself. Obviously she had been at a really low point that day, and something pushed her over the edge.

Story 2

About a year ago, a man was found beaten to death in a local churchyard. He had been attacked with an iron bar. It turns out the the murderer took exception to the dead man being disrespectful to his dead grandad by having sex near his grave.

The moral of the stories is basically that you need to think about what you say and do to other people because they may not react in the way you may expect them to react.

If you think this post is inapropriate, then tough. If you think I'm preaching, then tough. I you want to slag me off, then tough. I don't care.

story 1. posters on said forum may not have known about her condition, if they did they should have known better.

story 2, serves them right for being disrespectfull, imo.

Who was he having sex with and how did they get away?

Re: Everyone doesn't react the same way!

The murderer was a young lad who worked at the same firm as me. Everyone was shocked that he'd kill someone for having sex near his grandad's grave. It just shows that none of us can predict how someone else is going to react to a situation. That is why we all need to be more careful about what we say and do. I've 'put my foot in it' a few times by opening my mouth without thinking of the consequences, and I've got into trouble not thinking about how my actions cause others to react.

madness mate i do understand and respect your comments but i have to bring up one fundamental flaw in your logic (i think i know where this thread stems from) and that is,
on the net or face to face in public its a big bad world out there, if you choose to come on a open forum things will be said that will upset you or make you mad, as such everyone does in all practicallity accept these risks when posting or speaking in the public domain.
therefore as the above happening are sad and unfortunate, they are facts of life which must be taken for what they are, the real world. if you come on say this forum and someone disagrees with you thats the way it is, as stated before its a big bad world and we as human as we are , most certainlly arent all sweetness and light,
if i got upset by something i whenever possible try to avoid it, if i still do it, i accept that the upsetting thing may and probably will happen again
this forum inparticular is modded and run exceptionally well eg u rateing and warnings issued, and lets be frank about it this is one of the most "tame" discussion sites i have every come across (to its credit)
so as first said i understand your points but reality is if its to hot get out of the kitchen cos for all intents and purposes every time you enter you could be shot down, and nothing short of prescreening would or could stop it
now i hope you take my comments in the way intended and not as an inslut

Nothing at all insulting about your post Dave, In fact it was a very good and relevent post. You're right, we are living in the real world, and it can be sh*tty at times and we can't all agree and be nicey, nicey all the time. I just wanted to provoke a few thoughts on the subject of how we interact with each other and possible consequences to things that we say or do.

Very true. I'm sure a lot of the stuff that gets posted on the internet wouldn't be said face to face.
