33bhp ECU documentation

i have just got 33bhp ecu for my bike. its easy to fit but how do i go about getting documentation for it? at a fair price like £30?

it used to have kit fitted and still got documentation and kit but not fitted.

what to do???

I fitted a restricted ECU to my sons bike I have the documentation from the previous owner and got a letter from a local garage saying they removed it from the previous bike and fitted it to my sons ( yeah a little white lie). The insurance company were't intrested if it was fitted or not but I bet they would be if something was to happen to the bike.

Good morning all.

At the end of the day it all boils down to whether you're riding a 33bhp bike or not. Obviously the authorities may want to see some sort of paperwork at some stage, so you're probably best off having the ECU fitted at a garage who will write a covering letter stating the fact.

I'm not far from you, & it sounds like a few 'beer tokens' job. Give me a call if you want it fitted.

I wouldn't worry too much about the little piece of paper (although taking up Spanner Man's offer for a few beer tokens could be a good idea). AFAIK there's nothing in the law which says you need a certificate, only that your bike has to be <25KW (33BHP)

Well If you are going to restrict the bike your self i would make sure you have in writing from your insurance in writing what is aceptable form of proof.

I restricted my bike my self with the ECU and some one is claiming againts me.
when i took out my policy the broker told me that a dyno reading would be fine, now the under writer is saying that i need a certificated and having some issues now.

I wish i would have just had it done properly to save all the bother but its up to you.

There is no law on what you need but its down to what your insurance (underwriter) accepts as proof .

Absolutely correct.

The 'need' for a certificate was a myth spread by the sharks at FI International to get you to buy their pretty shoddy restrictor kits (which just happened to come with a legally useless piece of paper that stated the bike was 33bhp).

You don't need any documentation whatsoever, just the knowledge that the bike is restricted to 33bhp - if power output ever becomes an issue, it's up to the authorities to prove it isn't. For once, you are still innocent until proven guilty.
