Help to fit heated grips
Garage wants about £100 to fit heated grips. I'm too incompetent to do it myself, but would be very happy to pay £50 to someone willing to help me one weekend/evening.

Re: Help to fit heated grips
where in london are you?
it literally takes 25mins, £100 is well overpriced  |
Re: Help to fit heated grips
Putney, but can come to anyone willing to help!
Yeah I couldn't believe the quote either - but best quote from a local garage was £150 including fitting, and the alternative from a shop that won't be named was £75 per hour for fitting and when I asked how long it would take I was told "at least an hour maybe two". Made me wonder how complicated it could be! |
Re: Help to fit heated grips
I'd offer but i'm way over in Hatfield and having never fitted heated grips either i'd be worried about messing it up.What brand are they?
And if you come to our weekly Friday soho meet and bring them with you then you'll have no shortage of peeps willing to do it/ watch/ point/ be confused by all the pretty wires etc. :) |
Re: Help to fit heated grips
I fitted a set of Oxford Hotgrips to Hilary's SV. It took about an hour.

Re: Help to fit heated grips
Id happily help....only a quick squint up the A3.
Depends do you want them done to a relay or just wired so taking the chance of leaving them on and coming back to a flat battery? |
Re: Help to fit heated grips
PM'ed. Thanks to all for your help. Will have to make a Friday meet at some point!

Re: Help to fit heated grips
What heated grips have you got?
It might be worth contacting spannerman on here and having a chat with him about fitting. He's a good guy and charges fairly IMO |
Re: Help to fit heated grips
Sorry to derail but is (generally) the best way of doing this to wire the power directly from the battery and the relay feed from the ignition?
|
Re: Help to fit heated grips
I'd expect to use a relay to cut the battery feed when the ignition is turned off. So you'd have:
Battery +ve --->Fuse --->Relay Contacts --->Grip controller --->Grips ---> Ground (frame/battery -ve) Ignition +ve --->Relay Coil ---> Ground (frame/battery -ve) |
