TV LIcence

A friend of mine has recently moved into a new flat. This conscientious young chap-about-town went to the tv licensing website to get a new tv licence.

He did a search for his address and the ldatabase came back with an address for his upstairs neighbour, but not for him.

Does this mean that he can just not bother with this tv tax anyways as he doens't appear to be on the system?

Give the licenceing department a call. Simples. Better to be safe than sorry.

He can indeed do this, right up until the nice man from TV Licensing turns up and points out that although a single building, it is a collection of private residences, which sir will find each require a license. Oh and how would sir like to pay his fine?

How's the nice man from tv licensing going to prove that he's got a tv?

You don't need a license to own a tv. It's perfectly legal to own a tv and use it solely for watching dvd/vhs. So, the tv license inspector being able to see a tv through the window is evidence of nothing... My decoration went on for years, not just months!
