Anyone local-ish... chain rivetor?

As title: Anyone fairly local-ish got a chain riveter they wouldn't mind me borrowing for an afternoon or so?

I think folks can guess why, yup, that's right, chain snapped. :( Just as I was trying to filter past a car too.

If you're careful you can do it with 2 hammers - bit like bump starting a camel !

Baph , 2 molegrips to clamp new softlink into place then Peen the ends over with a hammer . Did mine that way and had it checked by my garage and they said it was fine .

Now then Mr Badger... you got me thinking.

New DID chain purchased, and I've checked my thinking, it works in principal. Screw the molegrips (could be entertaining tw... er hitting the rivets with molegrips in the way). So I've come up with an ingenius plan to hold the link in place.

It's called... wait for it... an elastic band. :) Wrap it around the chain before putting the link in place, move it so it holds, then mole grips to persuade the side plate past the rivet heads, followed by an almighty hammering.

Job jobbed, or will be tomorrow.

Much obliged for the thought Badger. :)

Use a vernier caliper to make sure the plate is in the same place as existing ones either side , place something heavy on the other side like a sledgehammer head or large chunk o`metal and use a pin punch to peen the edges of the rivet head over , on my second chain like this with no worries ..... despite carrying a spare softlink under my seat ;) . Once you have used the Molegrips to get the plate on you can remove them mate , that plate aint going anywhere , just a case then of getting jiggy with the hammer on the heads of the softlink rivets .
