Suzuki Yosh Box?
 

Hi everyone,

I e-mailed HM Racing yesterday asking about re-mapping my sv since i put the delkevic pipe on. The bike is coughing and farting alot on the overrun which i like, but.... my fuel consumption has gone through the roof. anyways HM Racing got back to me saying if i want a re-map done ( If i had a power commander ) would be £165 + VAT. If i want a power commander that would cost me 295 + vat for the PC and an extra £165 + vat for the custom map....

but they also said if i dont have a Power Commander they can use a Suzuki Yosh Box to remap my OEM ecu.

So im asking you .org what is this yosh box?

the Yoshi box as you've been told is a tool to overwrite the current ECU map, as opposed to a PC which modifys the standard EcU output.

so its nots like the PCV in the terms of i can go straight back to stock mapping?

No you can't, however it is considered much more accurate as it can be directly applied, the PC takes whatever the ECU output is and sits between that and the bike; as it's only modifying what's kicked out the degree of adjustment (and increments) are limited.

I've used tuneboy (does the same job as a yoshi box) for several years and if anything the amount of adjustment is way more than needed.

As I understand it the yosh box is some fine adjustment at various points. Not nearly as adjustable as a power commander but plenty for a fairly standard bike.

allrighty cheers YC and Mark, Just need to get it sorted because the backfiring is just rude lol. I do like the backfires and popping but i dont want to damage the engine.

I had the Suzuki/Yosh-box treatment a few times on my old TLR when it was new (back in '98 ). That was also to try and get rid of the backfiring (ultimately resolved by removing the PAIR valve system). Anyhow, from memory it had adjustments at high, medium, and low (throttle positon? I don't recall exactly, but I don't think it was rpm) with adjustment increments of +/-5% to a total of I think 15% in either direction from standard. This is going back over 10 years granted so I'm bound to have the details off by a bit, and the box may have changed some now.

Had I needed to pay them for the work, they would have charged ~$15 (a little less than £10 today). Back then the box only cost something like $350USD or so to buy -the TLR forum actually bought one and shared it around with a deposit.

remove/block PAIR valve.

It won't damage engine though unless it is running very lean.

I enquired about one myself and was told it would take about 20 minutes , they just turn some dials on it to make small adjustments and it would be £20 . In the end I never went back for it because I stopped the backfiring from my can by sealing the joints with Firegum , it occasionally has a growl and a good "Popple" and Bang when the can is hot and I snap the throttle shut . Before that it was getting stupid and almost embarrassing ........... almost ;)

And I thought it was a Yoshi box ? Abbreviated from Yoshimura .

My own experience of the yoshi box is I wouldnt touch it with a barge pole no way to save original ecu map they are only guessing the adjustments.The only real way to get it right is a pc3 on a dyno.The yoshi box remaps at 3 throttle settings but not on the dyno so how can it be ok without a dyno run to check fuelling.I would just block or remove PAIRS system to stop popping on overrun although I would just leave it.Nowadays most bikes run rich anyway to get through emission tests.
